A FIRST GUIDE TO ELKDOM
Know the lodge.
Learn the traditions.
A starting point based on public sources, with a clear distinction between national requirements and local rules we still need to verify.
01Membership starts with people.
National eligibility requires applicants to be at least 21, believe in God, be U.S. citizens who pledge allegiance to and salute the American flag, and be of good character. A sponsor and two additional Elk references are part of the application process.
National membership requirements02Local rules matter.
Guest access, sign-in, dress, dues, rentals, and house conduct need Mount Shasta’s current approved bylaws and house rules. These haven’t been verified here. Rules from another lodge are not a substitute.
Local bylaws (member access may be required)03Service comes first.
Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity are the principles listed by the lodge. National programs include support for youth, veterans, scholarships, and community service.
Explore Elks scholarships04A website can help.
National Elks materials encourage lodge websites and social media. That supports this project’s direction; it does not establish approval of this particular site or replace local officer review.
Elks marketing resources Before your first visit
Call the office about the event you want to attend, ask how guests are admitted, and request the current house rules. Ask the secretary about membership steps and current dues.

How do I apply to become an Elk?
Start with a membership inquiry. A member in good standing sponsors your application, with two other Elks as references. The process includes lodge review, an interview, a membership vote, then orientation and initiation if approved. Contact the secretary for the local application and current dues. Read the national process.
Does a public event listing mean anyone can walk in?
No. Check admission and guest arrangements with the lodge before attending.
Can we copy another lodge’s guest limits?
No. Mount Shasta’s approved local rules must establish those details.
Is this already an official lodge website?
No. This is an independent proposal for lodge review and approval.
